The TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) measures your ability to understand and use English in a university setting. It assesses four skills: reading, listening, speaking and writing. Since January 21, 2026, each section is scored from 1 to 6, and the overall score is the average of the four. For two years, the score report also shows the equivalent on the former 0-to-120 scale, still used by many universities. Scores are valid for two years.
Universities require proof of English proficiency from international students. The TOEFL is one of the most widely accepted certifications. Reaching the university’s minimum score is often a condition of admission, and it reassures coaches and academic offices. Students from English-speaking countries are sometimes exempt: we check each university’s policy.
