Scholarships by division

How many volleyball scholarships?

Select a division to see scholarships per team, funding potential and the network of programs.

Since the House v. NCAA settlement (July 1, 2025), Division I works with roster limits (“up to N”) rather than a fixed number of scholarships. The former cap is shown for reference.

What level for which division?

Find your step

The higher you go, the more selective it gets. But every step leads to a US degree, and our volleyball athletes are on every level.

Benchmark: level of play

D1
Men and women Top national amateur level, training center
The most demanding programs, often junior international players.
4 AP athletes
D2
Men and women National level
A very strong level, many international players, a good balance of sport and studies.
4 AP athletes
D3
Men and women Lower national – regional
No athletic scholarships: academic merit aid instead.
NAIA
Men and women National level
Smaller universities, more flexible recruiting, a schedule close to Division II.
15 AP athletes
NJCAA
Men and women Lower national – regional
Two years at a junior college, often a stepping stone to Division I or II.
5 AP athletes

Indicative benchmarks: every coach recruits for their own needs. NCAA Division I targets a national level. Division II, the NAIA and the NJCAA are excellent alternatives, depending on the profile. Every profile is reviewed case by case.

US college volleyball

Live volleyball on an American campus

Top-level facilities, professional coaches, a structured season: volleyball and a recognized degree, together.

Training

How college volleyball teams train

About 5 to 6 sessions a week, 3 to 4 hours a day, under the 20-hour cap.

The season

Your year, from the first practice to the title

Late Aug. – November
Women’s regular season.
December
NCAA Division I women’s tournament: Final Four and final in mid-December (Kansas City).
Jan. – April
Men’s season.
Mid-May
Men’s championship final.

The championships. Women’s volleyball, the “standard” NCAA program, is a fall sport with a title in December. Men’s volleyball runs on the opposite calendar, in the spring, with a final in May. The NJCAA women’s championship starts in mid-November, the NAIA in early December.

For parents

The three questions you are asking

Sending your child to study in the United States at 18 is a family decision. Here is what we answer most often.

How much does it cost?

An athletic scholarship covers all or part of tuition, housing and meals. What remains to pay depends on the division, the university and the application. We work it out with you, college by college, before you commit to anything.

Who looks after them on campus?

A coach and their staff, a strength and conditioning coach, a medical team and academic tutors. The NCAA caps practice at 20 hours a week in season so classes come first. And we stay reachable throughout their studies.

What is the degree worth?

An accredited four-year US bachelor’s degree, fluent English and real international experience: a profile that employers and master’s programs look for, at home and abroad.
